What is SAQ (speed, agility & quickness) training?
Speed is defined as the ability to move the body in one direction as fast as possible. Agility is the ability to accelerate, decelerate, stabilize, and quickly change directions with proper posture. Quickness is the ability to react and change body position with a maximum rate of force production. All three components will enhance the athlete's workout experience, satisfy the need for cardiorespiratory work, and provide variety in movement direction and position.
What are the benefits of SAQ for youth athletes?
All athletes can benefit from improved balance, quicker feet, and a faster reaction time, and this is exactly what SAQ drills help you achieve. Traditional modes of cardiorespiratory work (running, cycling, etc.) lend to repetitive motions with little, if any, emphasis towards the frontal or transverse planes of motion. In order to cater to the body’s need for stability in all planes of motion, SAQ will integrate movements at varying speeds and body positions into your athletes training plan. The brain is responsible for sending signals to the muscles to fire. The more efficient the brain is at sending these signals, the quicker the muscles will fire. SAQ training can improve the efficiency of these signals, which can help to improve reaction time, coordination, and balance in daily life.
Can my child participate?
Yes! Our SAQ training sessions start at the beginner level and are broken out by age ranges. All genders are welcome to sign up for a training within their age group
